Journal of Techno Social

PREFACE

Welcome to Journal of Techno-Social. This is a new, rebranded journal of the formerly Jurnal Sains Sosial, published by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Batu Pahat, Johor. Having a new outlook and new perspective, hopefully this journal will contribute significantly in enriching the academic world and will be well received by the public particularly those in academia.

The Journal of Techno-Social is a biannually, peer reviewed journal that addresses both applied and theoretical issues. The scope encompasses research articles, reviews and commentaries, etc. in the field of social sciences particularly those pertaining to man, environment, science and technology in the context of sustainability and globalization. The main purpose of this journal is to bridge the diverse and multi-disciplinary nature of social science into a common focus on man, environment and technology.

As a beginning, members of the Editorial Board comprise of university lecturers from some universities in Malaysia, vis-à-vis Malaysia International Islamic University, University of Science Malaysia, University of Technology Malaysia, University Malaysia Kelantan and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. This composition however, will be increased and interested parties nationally and internationally are much appreciated and welcome to participate.

To clear up the backlogs of the previous Jurnal Sains Social, the articles published in this issue are all in Bahasa Melayu. However, the abstracts are in English. As for future content, articles selected will be in both Bahasa Melayu and English, hence indicating that this journal is bilingual.

In this issue the topics covered are on health and safety of workers; social and environmental impacts of river basin development; housing and quality of life indicators; innovation and mechatronic engineering education; influence of communication, leadership and empowerment on staff motivation and generic skills among university students. It is hoped that this journal would attract the interest of many parties and consequently contribute to knowledge building, networking and the generation of new ideas for the development, prosperity and wellbeing of mankind.
