CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.0. Introduction

This chapter provides the background of study, the problem statement, research objectives and research questions of the study. Moreover, in this chapter the significant and scope of study is also presented. Lastly, at the end of this chapter the definitions of key terms are also provided.

1.1. Background of the Study

In Malaysia, manufacturing sectors is one of the main contributors in industrial sectors and it contributes 13.3 percent of the total economy in Malaysia. Malaysia as a developing countries and manufacturing sector are the largest components of Malaysia economy and because of that demand from manufacturing sector have been increases due to the effort of Malaysia to be industrialized country by 2020. There is a continuous in today competitive business world for manufacturing process that they want to increases productivity and improve quality but at the same time they want to reduce their cost. Malaysia has high potential in manufacturing sector even Malaysia still has challenges and gets competition from their competitors. According to Leman, Omar and Yusuf (2010), working environment has one of the factors that lead to the workplace accidents in Malaysia.

To understand the factors that can be lead to the workplace accidents in Malaysia, it is important to understand the definition of the manufacturing sector.
