Rector of International Islamic University Malaysia

Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin

It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge the 1st International Conference on Industrial Pharmacy, organized by the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy. This is the fi rst such event to be held in the east coast of peninsular Malaysia to address industrial pharmacy issues, particularly green pharmaceuticals. I have high hopes that this will bring together researchers from the academia and practitioners from the industry to share and discuss the increasingly important issue of reducing pollution to the environment by the pharmaceutical industry. Preservation of the environment is the responsibility of mankind, in line with the teachings of Islam.

I hope that all participants of the conference will gain rewarding experience from all the studies and fi ndings presented during the event. My deepest gratitude to all who are willing to share their experience and research fi ndings for the benefi t of not only Malaysia, but also other countries worldwide, represented by their delegates. Should there be a sequel to this fi rst event, I would like to welcome all delegates again for more knowledge sharing in this serene city of Kuantan.

With the theme of ‘Eco-friendly Pharmaceuticals for a Greener Future’, the University encourages Kulliyyah of Pharmacy to continue to move forward and take more challenges in coordinating more activities that will capture the true meaning of eco- friendly products and the importance of green pharmaceuticals in creating healthier living on this planet. Let us all work together to fi nd a better solution to reduce the unwanted effects of industrial activity on our environment, while simultaneously creating good synergy between the academia and the industry.

I would like to congratulate all the working committee members of the 1st International Conference on Industrial Pharmacy Program Committee for their tremendous teamwork effort in making the event a reality. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Siti Hadijah, for her continuous support throughout the preparation for this successful event.

Certainly, the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy has achieved its goal of becoming the fi rst school of pharmacy to embrace ‘industrial pharmacy’ as the niche area of pharmacy education. Let us take the responsibility to a different level; providing halal medicines to the society, as well as preserving the environment for the betterment of the future generation.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Siti Hadijah Shamsudin

On behalf of Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), it is my pleasure to welcome all the speakers, delegates and sponsors to our 1st International Conference on Industrial Pharmacy 2014.

The theme of the conference addresses the challenging issues faced by the pharmaceuticals especially in the fi eld of the Industrial pharmacy in Malaysia and Global. The horizons are very broad and the coordinated approached is required from various facets of pharmaceuticals, especially pharmaceutical industries, research centers, hospitals, pharmacists and scientists for drug development with safety, effi cacy and quality. Industrial Pharmacy is a discipline that covers the lifecycle of drug products from development, manufacturing, marketing, to distribution, including quality assurance of these activities.

May I on behalf of the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, IIUM thank the Organizing Committee and those who are indirectly involved with the organization and wish the Conference Success.

I hope this conference will help in expending the knowledge in Drug Discovery and Development of researchers, scientist and healthcare professionals. This will contribute immensely to the betterment of the industrial pharmacy.

Organizing Chairperson

Asst. Prof. Dr. Hazrina Ab Hadi

Asssalamu’alaikum warrahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the fi rst International Conference on Industrial Pharmacy (ICIP 2014). This conference is a platform that brings scientists from hospitals, academia and industry together to share and discuss current researches in the fi eld of pharmaceutical sciences that are eco-friendly in nature.

The call for papers attracted abstract submissions from Brazil, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. The accepted papers cover a variety of topics, including Drug Discovery and Development, Natural products, Nutraceutical and Cosmeceutical, Veterinary Pharmaceuticals, Pre-clinical and Clinical Studies, Supply Chain, Waste Management, Marketing & Post-surveillance, Good Practices & Regulatory Affairs. The ICIP delegates are not only from academia, but also from the industry and Ministry of Health (hospitals, National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau and Pharmacy Enforcement).

We also encourage all the conference delegates to attend the keynote and invited talk presentations. These valuable and insightful talks can and will guide us to a better understanding of the green pharmaceuticals.

We have 12 exhibit booths including major scientifi c supplier companies, which we conveniently located outside the grand ballroom. All the presentation of the conference will take place in the grand ballroom and another 2 meeting rooms of the Swiss Garden Hotel and Resort, situated scenically in front of the beach. Hopefully the weather will allow you to take a stroll over the beautiful beach.

Putting together ICIP2014 was a team effort. We are grateful to all the committee members who worked very hard to make this event happen successfully. We also would like to thank our sponsors and exhibitors; Bank Islam, Intran, Perkin Elmer, Agilent, DKSH, Mettler Toledo, Radwag, AHS, Bumifi cient, Sortorious, Research Instrument, Fisher Scientifi c, Taat Bestari, ChromScience, Permula and Innovin for their supports toward this conference.

Last but not least, we would like to thank all the authors who submitted their papers to the conference, and all the participants who helped in accomplishing the goals of the conference. We will do our best to make your stay at this conference a pleasant and fruitful one, both socially and scientifi cally. We hope that you will fi nd this program interesting and thought-provoking and that this conference will provide you with a valuable opportunity to share ideas with others.

Yours sincerely, ours sincerely,

Mr. David Hughes has considerable technical and commercial experience in the scale- up and commercialisation of biotect products. Most signifi cantly, David was responsible for the design, construction and commercial operation of Australia’s largest recombinant protein facility for American multi-national fi rm Alpharma Incorporated. Spanning more than 15 years, this project encompassed the classical drug developmental path from

‘idea to invoice’. David’s role included direct responsibility for process development, pilot plant design and operation, as well as the design, construction, validation, and commercial operation of a world-scale microbial recombinant protein plant. The plant comprised fermentation capacity of two 20000 litre fermenters and during 2002 produced over 300 kilograms of pharmaceutical grade protein to GMP standards.

THE ACQUITY QDa DETECTOR IS THE START OF NEW ERAS IN BOTH SEPARATIONS SCIENCE AND ANALYTICAL SCIENTIST INDEPENDENCE. CHARACTERIZE YOUR SEPARATIONS WITH THE INTEGRATION OF MASS DETECTION IN THE SAME WORKFLOW, ANSWERING QUESTIONS BEFORE THEY ARE ASKED. EMPOWER YOUR CHEMISTS WITH THE ANALYTICAL CONFIDENCE OF MASS DETECTION FOR MORE VALUE FROM EVERY ANALYSIS AND MORE PRODUCTIVITY FROM EVERY DAY.
