SMARTER is an acronym for ‘A Structured and Multisensory AppRoach To Enhance Reading’. It uses the principles of Orton-Gillingham method of teaching phonics in a systematic and step-wise manner.

SMARTER*phonics

TM

builds the brain for literacy by employing current reading science research of the importance of listening, phonological awareness, vocabulary. Its cumulative and repetitive structure and use of multi-sensorial activities have been shown in various projects to enhance both reading and writing.

SMARTER*phonics is currently used in all preschools in Sarawak.

Target participants

Parents, teachers in kindergartens, preschools and primary schools, teaching institutes, education officers and other

interested individuals

Aims of Workshop

The workshop will equip participants with the skills to help all children – with or without risk for dyslexia - to learn to read and spell in English using a structured, systematic, phonics-based and multi-sensorial instructional program.
