1.0 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

1.1 Introduction

From the statistic of incident medication error in the ward and from the team's experience as nurses in medication administration, the team had chosen a product that we believe can reduce and preventing the incident of medication error among the nurses in the hospital. The product is The Smart Medication vest. One of the causes of incident medication error occur is the nurses have been distracted and interrupted during the medication administration process.

This product is suitable to lessen the interruption while serving medication.

1.2 Purpose of development

The purpose of the product development are:

• To minimize interruptions during medication administration

• To reduce and preventing incident medication error among nurses

1.3 Product Concept

• For nurses in general ward and clinics

• For student nurses , still in learning in basic diploma or degree in nursing, doing his/her practical session in skill lab

1.4 Application

1.4.1 Functions

• Made of 100% polyester and provided in pink, red, orange, and purple bright colors to easily catch everybody's eyes

• Sound detector - Able to detect the sound of interruptions and voice of the right patient that had been served with the medication.

• Touch detector - A touch sensor primarily works when an object or individual gets in physical contact with it. Unlike a button or other more manual control, touch sensors are more sensitive, and are often able to respond differently to different kinds of touch, such as tapping, swiping and pinching.

• Alarm - to alert nurses any error and also to alert anyone not to interrupt during the medication administration

• Free size and washable

• The symbol of DO NOT INTERRUPT, MEDICATIONS IN PROGRESS is attached front and back to catch alertness of others.

• Front pockets for own belongings

1.5 Unique features

The uniqueness of the product for availability in Malaysia market consists of:

• Connected and linked with the application that are installed in the computers and tablets in the ward - to comply with principle of lORs - l)right medication 2) right patient 3) right dose 4) right route 5) right time 6) right patient education 7) right documentation 8) right to refuse 9) right assessment 10) right evaluation

• Sound detector - Able to detect the sound of interruptions and voice of the right patient that had been served with the medication.

• Touch detector - A touch sensor primarily works when an object or individual gets in physical contact with it.
